1. Dave Franco
While Franco’s star status may seem to have materialized from thin air, the Now You See Me actor actually has appeared on a number of television shows in recent years, including “Scrubs”, “Greek” and “Privileged.”
His next big screen feat? He’s co-starring in the comedy Neighbors with Seth Rogen, who happens to be a close friend of Dave’s big brother James Franco.
2. Natalie Dormer
No stranger to portraying seductive, powerful women, Dormer has played a queen (in “The Tudors”) as well as the mysterious woman who captured Sherlock Holmes’s heart (in “Elementary”).
Her current role on “Game of Thrones” as Margaery Tyrell, the queen-to-be and a thorn in Cersei Lannister’s side, has piqued the interest of the show’s devoted fans. We’ll be seeing a lot more of her in 2014, too: Dormer was recently cast in Hunger Games:Mockingjay as Cressida.
3. Rebel Wilson
The kraken has been unleashed! Feel the force of Rebel Wilson! This scene-stealer from 2011’s Bridesmaids went on to hit such high comedic high notes in 2012’s Pitch Perfect that she was tapped to host the 2013 MTV Movie Awards.
Currently starring in the ABC comedy “Super Fun Night”, Wilson is also set to co-star in Kung Fu Panda 3 and Pitch Perfect 2, both coming in 2015. But we expect to see a lot more from her in 2014.
4. Logan Lerman
No shrinking violet to begin with, The Perks of Being a Wallflower star electrified audiences as Percy Jackson, the central hero of Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters and its predecessor Percy Jackson & the Lightning Thief.
In 2014 he’ll depart the realm of Olympus to tackle a biblical role in Noah, in addition to costarring in the World War II film Fury.
5. Karl Urban
This New Zealand actor has a face that lends itself to a variety of regal roles on screens large and small, be they heroes such as the honorable Eomer in The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, or villains like Vaako from Riddick — and, much earlier, a treacherous Julius Caesar in “Xena: Warrior Princess“.
But in 2013, Urban’s popularity climbed among our users thanks to his co-starring turn in the iconic role of Dr. Leonard ‘Bones’ McCoy the highly-anticipated Star Trek Into Darkness. He currently stars in Fox’s futuristic cop drama “Almost Human“.
6. Aaron Paul
No stranger to IMDb users or television audiences, this actor emerged in the top ranks among our users thanks to his devastating portrayal of Jesse Pinkman, a streetwise, emotionally conflicted meth cook, on AMC’s “Breaking Bad”.
In the final episodes of the series, which aired its magnificent finale in September, Paul’s performance wrung every last drop of pathos out of the terrible circumstances he brought upon himself by partnering with the devil known as Walter White.
“Breaking Bad” may be over, but Paul’s career is still cooking. In 2014 he’ll be starring in Need for Speed,Hellion, A Long Way Down and Exodus.
7. Shailene Woodley
Having made her mark on ABC Family’s “The Secret Life of the American Teenager”, which ended this year, this young actress garnered critical acclaim for her work in The Spectacular Now and, two years before that release, her turn in The Descendants.
Her future seems destined to grow even more spectacular, thanks to starring roles in Divergent and The Fault in Our Stars.
8. Paul Walker
The star of The Fast and the Furious franchise passed away suddenly and far too young in a car crash on November 30. He was in the midst of filming its latest installment, Fast & Furious 7, when the tragedy occurred.
Production has been delayed indefinitely as his fans and co-stars mourn his loss.
9. Nicholas Hoult
His career is getting warmer… The co-star of X-Men: First Class carried the central role in the offbeat zombie romance Warm Bodies last winter before appearing soon after in Jack and the Giant Slayer.
The coming year is going be a busy one for Hoult. He’s starring in Dark Places,Young Ones and X-Men: Days of Future Past. On his plate for 2015: Mad Max: Fury Road. ”
10. Charlie Hunnam
Best known for playing Jax Teller in FX’s “Sons of Anarchy”, this British actor made headlines when he was cast in Fifty Shades of Grey in the coveted role of billionaire business magnate Christian Grey. Soon after witnessing serious backlash from fans over his selection, Hunnam dropped out of the production.
It must be said that if those avid readers had seen Hunnam in Pacific Rim, in which his abs were gloriously put on display, they might not have emitted so much as a peep. Too late now! They’ll just have to catch him on TV or in Triple Nine and Crimson Peak, both due in 2015.
